We have an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated and skilled Subsurface Data Analyst to join our team in Aberdeen. As Subsurface Data Analyst you will manage all subsurface data, including seismic and well log data, across the businesses operated and non-operated assets and will support the Subsurface Data Management team in delivering BAU related services to users.
What you’ll do
- Support the Subsurface Data Management team in delivering BAU related services to users
- Develop and enhance existing own technical skills, and work with third party vendors to ensure services are developed, enhanced, and supported
- Ensure all processes, procedures, and work instructions are clearly followed to help improve reliability, efficiency, quality, and cost effectiveness of service components under supervision for example ITIL problem and change processes
- Accountable for compliance with all IS related processes, policies, and work practices.
- Support the development of future planning and product roadmap activity
- Act as technical focal point in business-critical upgrades
- Facilitate the use of the performance metrics to improve output
- Organise and maintain unstructured technical documents including migration to SharePoint, taxonomy generation, and metadata creation
- Maintain data management processes for data interoperability and delivery across subsurface (and related) product lines
- Support the Coordinate Reference Systems (CRS) catalogue and ensure that the appropriate CRS and transforms are used for all relevant data and projects
- Adhere to strict standards when maintaining corporate data, managing data in Petrel Studio and other relevant datastores, databases and applications
- Implement data standards and quality controls for subsurface and wells workflows and data types to ensure consistency and efficiency
- Assist in the coordination of the storage, retrieval and viewing of technical data stored with offsite vendors (digital, hardcopy, cores & samples)
- Provide a single entry and exit point for subsurface data entering and leaving the company, including partner data
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the companies owned and partner assets, and planned drilling and exploration activities
- Support the on-going security, performance, stability, maintenance, and monitoring of Subsurface data
- Adhere to enterprise technology standards, governance processes and performance metrics
- Ensure the adoption of, and commitment towards, service improvements
- Aid the Subsurface Data Adviser in supporting team members on day-to-day activities and assigning duties to ensure improved resource allocation
- May be required to provide out of hours support via an on-call rota
What to bring
- Proven experience of subsurface data management in the Oil and gas sector or equivalent
- Full understanding of the management of data within the Petrel environment
- Knowledge of Landmark, Kingdom Data Manager and other technical applications required
- BSc. in Geosciences, Petroleum Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent IS work experience with G&G data
- Previous data related technical well operations and subsurface experience is a pre-requisite for the maturity and breadth of responsibility of this position
- Strong working knowledge of the upstream businesses with in-depth working knowledge of data management concepts, standard, practices, tools and technologies
- Understanding of data life cycle management and the associated operator regulatory obligations
- Experience with production and reservoir engineering data environments
- Proven delivery of data management projects for a UK or international operator
- Excellent analytical, collaborative (team working) with planning and execution skills
- Experience of developing and implementing process improvements
- Self-motivated with a willingness to go the extra mile to achieve important goals
- Ability to adhere to governance practices to track and measure the quality of services, and maintain service improvement plans
- Strong third-party relationship skills, able to work closely with users as customer, providing a high standard of support service
- Good verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts and technologies to the workforce
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment to encourage collaboration, innovation and continuous improvement
