Enabling Excellence
Jamie Mowatt tells us about his work - part of an innovative service forming part of our broader portfolio.
My team provides a range of leadership and team development, coaching and event facilitation services for our client - an independent oil and gas company.
Since our team’s inception, we’ve been involved in a wide range of initiatives. We designed and now run the client’s Management Development Programme. This consists of ten half-day modules, delivered by our team of facilitators. With topics ranging from ‘Emotional Intelligence’ and ‘Effective Communication’ to ‘Managing Change’ and ‘Diversity, Equity and Inclusion,’ these courses are designed to provide managers and leaders with a firm grounding in both the behavioural and technical skills needed for their increasingly demanding roles.
We present our courses through a mix of virtual and classroom-based delivery and, most importantly, everything we design and present is aligned with the client’s standards, values and culture. Our aim is to provide a programme that is supportive, flexible and relevant for our client. This means that we adapt the material to reflect the changing priorities of the client. Two examples would be when we converted all materials to virtual delivery during COVID-19 lockdowns, and created adapted versions of our modules that are more relevant and culturally sensitive for an international audience when our client opened two new offices in different regions of Asia.
Since our client has returned to a hybrid working model after lockdowns, we are also running a programme of ‘Team Effectiveness’ events. These were designed to build rapport between team members and explore strategies with the aim of establishing integrated efficient and collaborative teams. These events have been a huge success. So far, we have delivered around forty sessions reaching over 500 delegates across the organisation.
With varied professional backgrounds, my team and I bring diverse skillsets and approaches. Since starting in our current roles, we have all become accredited practitioners in various psychometric tools that we can use in our coaching. These include Insights Discovery and EQi 2.0 – both of which are extremely useful when coaching teams and individuals to understand themselves, their own motivations and emotions and make the most of relationships that affect them in the workplace.
As you can imagine, no two days are the same – whether we’re at the client premises, meeting with senior client stakeholders to plan new learning material; or in the conference suite at a city hotel delivering a training course to 25 delegates; coaching an individual through a challenging period of change in the workplace; or hosting and facilitating a large onboarding event for graduates… this role is constantly challenging, always exciting and ultimately rewarding.
